Louis Armstrong was born August 4th, 1901. Old Satchelmouth still has a devoted worldwide following in spite of his passing over a half century ago.

New Orleans is a city famous for destroying its physical landmarks and Armstrong’s birthplace is no different. In 1964 the city drove bulldozers across Satch’s birth home as well as the entire neighborhood where the legend grew up.

Whilst our local municipality is not known for contrition, New Orleans has managed to throw a hell of a birthday party for Louis on the weekend of his birth starting in the year 2000 and continuing today. Of course we’re only in it for the second lines so be aware that Armstrong’s memorial parade is this Sunday August 6th, 2023 at 11:15 am. St. Augustine Church, 1210 Governor Nicholls St, New Orleans, LA 70116 is where the affair begins.
