While the official second line season does not kick off for a few more weeks the annual Satchmo Summerfest street parade has served as a de facto start for right at 20 years. Several hundred people milled about impatiently outside St Augustine Church as the 11:15 am start time came and passed.
The dignitaries were late in arriving.
Once the poobahs assembled the brass bands ignited and a wildfire of enthusiasm swept through Treme. Liftoff was achieved. Our sweet sweet second line tradition hauled off and the assembled throng commenced to having the time of their lives.
