Fought on this day in 1815. The battle would last 25 minutes.

The St. Bernard Parish town of Chalmette is named after Ignace Martin de Lino de Chalmette, the owner of the plantation where the battle was fought and the British defeated.

The American troops fought under the command of Gen. Andrew Jackson. Jackson Square in nearby New Orleans is named after the valorous soldier.

The Chalmette Battlefield is now a a park and the 99 acre battlefield is encircled by a walking track popular with local citizens.
